Brookie’s Distillery has released a new take on its award-winning gin with the Native Plum Gin Spritz with Mint & Strawberry. Now, I know that title is a bit of a mouthful, but the drink is wonderful and a welcome change of pace.
The drink takes inspiration from a Sloe Gin cocktail (or Slow Gin in the case of Cape Byron Distillery’s), made in the same style as the traditional English ‘Sloe’ gin, but with an Aussie twist.
Initially, I thought this was going to be some over-the-top sweet alternative to a beautiful gin but the distillers up in Byron Bay had other plans. The spritz doesn’t lose the native botanicals that make the drink so enjoyable. The native plum steals the show and makes way for an enjoyable gin taste while the strawberry and mint are merely complementary, not stars in the bottle.
Infused with the Cape Byron Distillery Slow Gin, it comes in a four-pack of premix bottles and it’s an easy way to enjoy some quality gin without worrying about how to mix it.
“We know that the modern drinker is searching for quality, convenience and better alternatives. And we’ve heard the call for premium Australian craft gin cocktails loud and clear,” Cape Byron Distillery chief executive and distiller Eddie Brook says.
“So, for a space renowned for loads of sugar and fake flavours, we wanted to change the game and bring an unrivalled level of quality and taste.”
Additionally, it comes right in time for spring as a fresh, fruity, easy-drinking gin mix. Even if spring is as locked down as it’s looking for most of Australia, there’s always the summer to enjoy a classic tipple.
