East 9th Brewing is boutique brewing company located in Melbourne, Australia. Its three master brands: Doss Blockos, Fog City, and Lick Pier have all been insired by moments of fringe American history and are available nationally through all major liquor wholesalers. Its innovative product offering (like stubbies wrapped in brown paper bags), combined with its on-premise focus has helped East 9th Brewing to achieve strong brand awareness and equity across the minds’ of beer drinkers all over the country.

Style: IPA     ABV: 6.5%

Tasting notes from the brewer: Crafted with 5 varieties of U.S hops, a bitter spiciness of pine and savoury malt presents itself as a beautiful dark amber, perfectly balanced with a sweet, fruitful aroma. An odd mixture…but would you have it any other way?

"Fair to middling."
I was pleasantly surprised by this beer. I’m usually not too keen on a pale lager but by the end of my glass I was convinced that Dos Blokos is my favourite of the style thus far. It’s a bit watery and flat though which is a pretty big negative in my book but the brew did redeem itself somewhat with its subtle cascade hop flavours and balanced bitterness.

Would I buy it again?
I just might.

"My kinda beer"

Right off the bat, I love the name ’Doss Blockos’, and once I gave it a taste I realised it ticked a lot of the boxes I look for in a brew; not too bitter, no lingering aftertaste and smooth enough for it to go down super easy.

A few sips in and I wish I was transported from my work desk to a couch watching live sport with a meatlovers pizza and a couple more cold ones.

Would I buy it again?
Absolutely, this surely can’t be the last time I have the great...Doss Blockos.

"Yessir."

Any beer that comes wrapped in a brown paper bag piques my interest and takes my mind to a front porch or step I haven’t yet sat on in Brooklyn or some other cool American neighbourhood.

I’d heard mixed reviews about this beer and I’m glad I didn’t take the negative opinions on board because I thoroughly enjoyed Doss Blockos.

It isn't super tasty like the beers I generally choose but it was the type of brew I’d share with mates who aren’t really fond of the really hoppy punches that come with IPAs.

Would I buy it again?
Yessir, and I’d recommend it to all of my mates. Now to find a sweet porch to kick back on and enjoy a few.

“A bit like a dry pear.”

This isn’t the first time I’ve had Doss Blockos... and I distinctly remember not liking it. But on my second go, I must admit I was wrong. Sort of. It’s not horrible, but I would be hesitant to rave about it.

As a pale lager, this should be in my wheelhouse. Asahi, Hahn Super Dry and Toohey’s Extra Dry are all, theoretically, direct competitors to this. And if I’m honest, I much prefer those to the Doss Blockos.

You could say that it’s the Sonia Kruger of beers... it’s not bad but it’s not worth fussing over.

Would I buy it again?
Meh. Maybe?
