The MDrill One microphone from Thronmax is a plug-and-play mic solution for whatever your need, passing a lot of the options over the user, making it ideal for a plethora of use cases.
It produces a crisp, clean recording which is all you can ask for from your microphone (not to say all mics do deliver). Thronmax has also thrown in VERTIGAIN technology which helps increase quality and clarity by 10% which is on top of the 16-bit/48KHz audio recording.
I used the microphone for my day-to-day Zoom calls as well as my podcast, The Deep Two NBA Podcast and Lanella Media’s Tradie Connection podcast. It worked seamlessly, there was no fiddling with the audio settings, you simply plug in the USB, Zoom detects it and then you change your audio to the appropriate setting.
One of the coolest features of the microphone is that it can change recording patterns to whatever you need. Given I record my podcasts over Zoom, I only needed the omnidirectional setting, but with the click of a button, it can change from bi-directional, 360, cardioid or stereo. This, I imagine, is incredibly useful for in-person podcasts with people changing seats and placement depending on how many people there are.
It works on Windows, Mac, gaming consoles, with PC gaming/streaming and a number of other situations, all without the need for any drivers or software – just plug-and-play. Making it easier to connect, it has a 3.5mm audio jack and a universal mounting screw for common microphone stands.
An LED level indicator on the front of the device lets speakers adjust the gain.
All in all, I’d highly recommend the Thronmax MDrill, especially for people who want a simple solution that works in a number of settings, works easily and works the first time, whatever the need may be.
