I first fell in love with White Rabbit a number of years ago when the Dark Ale hit the scene. And that love has been rekindled thanks to the Golden Sour Ale offering.
Sour ales, like dark ales, are not for everyone. But then again, lagers and pilsners aren’t for everyone either, so that should come as no surprise. I think sours are a little more divisive though. None of my beer drinking pals dig the style, but I reckon they’re missing out.
The wort used in this delicious brew starts its journey with a three day lactic souring to build a bold acidity, before it returns to the brewhouse where the first layers of hop character are added in the kettle, whirlpool and hopback. After fermentation it is dry hopped and filtered to a bright golden appearance that belies its sour bite and fresh hop character.
It’s essentially a golden ale with a hit of sour, that, if like me, you enjoy the likes of sour lollies, will leave you craving more. But maybe not all night long.
I crushed three in my first sitting and was hugely satisfied.
