The Green Beacon team are a well travelled bunch and what they all found incredible and exciting in their favourite cities like New York and London, was the communities’ accessibility to all sorts of wonderful restaurants, coffee shops, roasters, delis, bars and even the odd local small craft brewer. The team were intrigued by it and saw how well these establishments functioned within these communities and decided this was a perfect formula for their  home town of Brisbane.

Style: American wheat     ABV: 4.9%

Tasting notes from the brewer: Bursting with hop aromas of fresh tropical fruit and intense flavours of lemon, pineapple, passionfruit and a hint of coconut. Flaked and malted wheat give a creamy mouthfeel and finish.

"Hello sunshine."

Much like walking through an orange orchard on a sunny day, this American wheat beer left me with a nostril full of invigorating citrus tang. It’s a cloudy brew and this lends the beer a pleasant creaminess with just enough lemon cutting through to stop it weighing you down.

This is an easy drinking beer that I’d recommend to all.

Would I buy it again?
Yes. American wheat isn’t a beer I’d go for all the time but Wayfarer USA is definitely a good example of the style.

"Cloudy comfort."

As the only reviewer that isn’t a big beer drinker I can easily be seen as the Simon Cowell of the group, picking up every glass with a sense of skepticism.

On this occasion this skepticism was met with quite a tasty easily drinkable brew for the non beeroisseur.

No strong bitter aftertaste and a nice cloudy colour that reminds me of the ciders I like to drink.

The can says ‘it bursts with tropical fruit flavours and citrus aromas’; I’m not sure it’s ‘bursting’ with fruitiness but it certainly is making its presence known.

Would I buy it again?
Yup.

"Creamy soda."

It wasn’t love at first sight, but the more I swigged, the more it grew on me. Brown creamy soda comes to mind when considering the mouthfeel and that always brings back sweet childhood memories so I’ll remember this beer fondly.

It poured nicely with a great frothy head and was seriously easy to drink. In the end, I decided a second date or two would definitely be on the cards. I’m still thinking about it now…

Would I buy it again?
Definitely. I’d even recommend mates go out of their way to try it too.

“USA... USA... USA...”

I haven’t come across many American wheat beers in my many, many drinking escapades, so I didn’t really know what to expect when I tried Wayfarer USA. The result? I honestly feel like I’ve been missing out.

I prefer light bodied beers, normally dry lagers, and this little ditty from Green Beacon is, well, pretty damn good. Yes, it smells a bit like an old lady’s BO and it is cloudy (to the point where I swear there was sediment in the can), but it’s incredibly easy and enjoyable to drink.

The flavour isn’t overbearing and you could easily drink a lot of these all year ‘round.

I could easily see this becoming a staple of my beer fridge.

Would I buy it again?
I’m already planning a trip to Newstead in Queensland to buy some more.
