Suck it Up

You might be wondering why we reviewed a vacuum here at ManSpace but before you hit the back button, hear me out.

The man cave, whether exclusively for men or not, should be kept clean, because let’s be honest, nobody wants to hang out in filth. And if you’re going to spend good money on decking out your space away from the rest of your house, you should keep it prim and proper.

This is where the Dyson V6 Absolute comes into the picture. Powered by the Dyson digital motor V6, spinning at 110,000rpm the suction moves up to 15 litres of air per second and runs five times faster than an F1 car. That caught your attention right?

As far as vacuums go, this one’s a winner when it comes to usability. It’s a cordless stick model and with that in mind, there’s no need to worry about finding extension cords and getting stuck around couch legs or corners. It also makes it perfect to use in the car, but more on that later.

The Absolute is noticeably light in the hand and the solid red wand attachment saves you bending down and giving your lower back a hard time.IMG_0615

The engine, HEPA filter and dustbin all fit into a compact core that fits snug in the hand and with the press of a button you’re in the money. The red wand clicks onto the dustbin, and the vacuum head, of which there are several to choose from, clicks onto that. Easy!

Added to the usability, is versatility and with the introduction of the V6 Absolute came two Dyson engineered cleaner heads: Dyson Fluffy which uses a larger roller covered in soft woven nylon to pick up larger debris and the motorhead (features a second, direct drive motor and stiff nylon bristles for powerful performance on carpets), just to make sure all bases are covered.

The motorhead is particularly handy for the car, and if your hobbies are anything like mine (soccer and fishing), you’ll know how much punishment the carpets receive. To put it bluntly, my last vacuum was hopeless when it came to sucking up sand and dirt so trips to the local car wash were a regular affair. Those days are a thing of the past with this pocket rocket though. The motorhead snaps straight onto the vacuum’s dustbin, making it nice and compact and easy to manoeuvre around chairs, gear sticks and centre consoles. And for the really tight areas, there’s a long and slim attachment included.IMG_0619

My first experience with the V6 Absolute was a confronting one, considering I’m a little OCD when it comes to cleaning my place. I’ve always considered the carpet in my bedroom to be cleaner than most but I almost filled the dustbin after a couple of minutes. Needless to say I was thoroughly impressed and ready to chuck out my old excuse for a vacuum.

The V6 Absolute comes with a docking station that is best suited on a wall next to a powerpoint. The vacuum takes around 3.5 hours to fully charge and runs for 20 minutes, 16 with the motorised cleaner head and for 6 if the “Max” mode is engaged. With that in mind, it isn’t the right choice for a big house but makes for the ultimate vacuum for man caves, apartments and units.

So, if like me, you’ve grown tired of using a sub-standard vacuum that lost its suction power after the third week, then the V6 Absolute is certainly one worth investigating. Just don’t clean too often… people might start asking if you ever spend anytime in there.
